The last week was too hectic for serious reading and by chance I got these three books which are a part of the Marshall Cavendish Weekly Collection series on ‘The Great Artists’. Sadly they are not available in India though you can find them at ‘Used Books’ stores.

The books are written in a graphic novel style and you can even just look at the pictures and illustrations and read the captions. Each book is dedicated to an artist and traces their work and their life and times. There are references for further reading and information about where the best works can be found today. There are also notes on the technical terms used which is the best feature because it is so easy to get confused with terms like murals and frescoes and reliefs. Another interesting feature is the last chapter which highlights the important events in the world that coincided with the artists lifetime.

The book is a complete introduction to a particular artist and overall a guide to appreciating art. Can’t wait to get my hands on the other books in the series!
