This is the second book I’m reading with the Koh-i-Noor as the protagonist in a span of one month. Though the previous one – ‘The Mountain of Light’ by Indu Sundaresan was a fictionalised account, the book titled ‘Kohinoor’ by William Dalrymple and Anita Anand is a well-researched non-fiction piece.

In spite of the Kohinoor being a well known diamond, very less is actually known about it. A part of the appeal of the diamond lies in its murky origins and unknown journey as it changed hands. In this book, the authors write about the verified and unverified stories associated with the diamond. Starting from its association with the syamantaka mani and ending with the various nations claiming it to be theirs, the authors have succinctly presented all that there is to be known about the diamond.

P.S. Read the book to know the connection between the diamond and Lord Jagannath of Puri
